FAQ's
DOES TEA CONTAIN CAFFEINE?
Yes, they do. All our teas originate from the Camellia Sinensis plant which is the same plant that cultivates black and green tea; hence they have a natural source of caffeine. The levels found in purple tea are usually lower in comparison to black tea. White tea contains the highest levels of caffeine compared to black and green tea.
You can find the level of caffeine in each tea on the box.
WHAT IS SO UNIQUE ABOUT PURPLE TEA?
According to the Kenya Tea Research Institute (KRI), purple tea has rich anthocyanins (purple pigmentation), which has medicinal value, making it popular among health enthusiasts. The institute also says that purple tea is resistant to pests, drought and frost. It has a fruity thirst-quenching taste and is believed to reduce the risk of hypertension and cardiac arrests. The processing of purple tea leaves is also gentler, compared to the more boisterous process of CTC (crush, tear and curl) for black teas.
CAN I COLD-BREW YOUR TEAS?
Yes! Let the tea bag steep in the refrigerator for about 6 hours. If it is too strong, simply add water. If it is too weak, let is sit a bit longer the next time.
Once ready add any flavor you feel, like honey, lemon or event fresh fruits.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO STORE THE TEA?
The best way to store tea is in a cool and dry environment.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LOOSE LEAF TEA AND TEA BAGS?
The difference is the grade of the tea, referring to how the teas are processed, and not the quality of the tea itself. The processing of grades used in tea bags creates finer leaves with a larger surface area, meaning that it will brew faster but may lose some of its flavor. Loose leaf tea which is made from whole tea leaves that are minimally processed, preserves all of the richness and complexity of the tea. Loose leaf tea also circulates better in the pot, resulting in a superior flavor and aroma when brewed to perfection.
WHERE DO YOU SOURCE YOUR TEAS?
We source our teas from local farmers and factories located on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya. With a very diverse climate, the tea plants grow in ideal condition.
WHAT IS THE ORTHODOX METHOD?
Orthodox tea is a type of tea that is produced using traditional techniques, including hand-picking the tea leaves, rolling them to break down the cell walls and release the flavors, and then drying the leaves. This method results in a high-quality, full-flavored tea that is superior to other types of tea that are produced using more modern, machine-based methods. All the Bahari teas are produced using the orthodox method to assure the highest level of quality and taste.
